Part of the Goddess Series, this is an illustration of the Chinese goddess Guan Yin: goddess of mercy and compassion. She is the patron saint of sailors and mothers. She stands at the edge of the surf holding a lotus flower and looking down to represent her looking down on her people to understand their pain and sorrows.
